How do I disconnect my listings from Vrbo's API?

How to disconnect your Vrbo listings from another software's API connection, and what Host Tools does while that connection is in place.

Written by Tom Krones

If your Vrbo listings are connected directly to Vrbo's API through another software, Host Tools can't sync their calendar. Vrbo only allows one software to control a unit's calendar at a time, so that connection has to be decommissioned first. This usually applies when you're moving to Host Tools from another property management system.

How to disconnect from Vrbo's API

  1. Open the Vrbo Help Center at https://help.vrbo.com/

  2. At the bottom of the screen, click Contact Us.

  3. Click I’m a Property Manager.

  4. Click Software Integration.

  5. Click Email.

  6. Fill out the form and click Submit.

Request a decommission of your integration with the Vrbo API, and include:

  • Your Vrbo account email

  • The listing IDs to disconnect

What you'll see in Host Tools

When Host Tools finds that a Vrbo listing is API connected to another software, it flags that listing so you know why its calendar isn't syncing. You'll see a warning on the listing in Settings > Listings and on the listing's pricing details.

On that listing's settings page, Sync Pricing & Restrictions and Sync Availability are turned off and can't be switched on until the API connection is removed. The disabled toggles show an explanation with a link back to this article.

Messaging is not affected. Guest messaging, message rules, and reservation imports keep working on the listing as normal.

If the listing is also connected to other channels, those channels keep syncing as usual — only Vrbo is skipped.

💡 While the API connection is in place, Host Tools stops retrying the Vrbo calendar sync, so you won't get repeated calendar sync errors for that listing.

After the connection is removed

Once Vrbo decommissions the integration, Host Tools clears the warning on its own the next time it checks the listing. The Sync Pricing & Restrictions and Sync Availability toggles become available again, and you can turn on the calendar syncing you want.
