How do I use the rating dashboard widgets?

Learn how to add and read the Average Rating KPI, Rating Over Time chart, Star Distribution chart, and Rating per Listing chart on your Host Tools dashboard.

Written by Tom Krones

Summary

Track guest satisfaction across your portfolio with four Reviews dashboard widgets. The Average Rating KPI card gives you your mean guest score at a glance, Rating Over Time shows how that average shifts week by week or month by month, Star Distribution breaks down ratings by star count, and Rating per Listing lets you compare average scores across individual properties — all without leaving your dashboard.

Adding the widgets to your dashboard

  1. Open Dashboard from the main navigation.

  2. Click Add Widget.

  3. Under the Reviews category, select one or more of:

    • Average Rating — a KPI card showing your mean guest star rating for the selected period, including a delta compared to the prior equivalent period.

    • Rating Over Time — a chart tracking how your average rating changes across the selected period, bucketed by week or month.

    • Star Distribution — a bar chart showing how many reservations received 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5 stars during the selected period.

    • Rating per Listing — a horizontal bar chart comparing the average guest rating for each of your individual listings.

  4. Click Add to place the widgets on your dashboard.

You can resize and reposition chart widgets by dragging them anywhere on your dashboard.

Understanding the data

All four widgets count reservations that have a guest review within the selected date range. Reservations with no guest rating are excluded from every calculation.

The Average Rating card shows the arithmetic mean of all guest star ratings in the period. The delta indicator compares that mean against the prior equivalent period — for example, if your date range is May, the prior period is April.

The Rating Over Time chart is only available at Weekly or Monthly granularity. If your dashboard is set to a finer granularity, the widget will display a message asking you to switch.

The Rating per Listing widget shows up to the top 10 listings by average rating. If your portfolio has more than 10 listings, the remaining properties are grouped into an Others row showing their pooled average rating and combined review count.

💡 Pro tip: Set the granularity to Monthly and select a full-year date range to spot seasonal patterns in guest satisfaction across your portfolio.

What if the widgets show no data?

If the widgets show no data, check that the selected date range includes reservations where guests submitted a review. The widgets require at least one reservation with a guest rating in the selected period. Widening your date range is the quickest way to confirm whether rated reservations exist.
