What listing content syncs to Booking.com?

Which listing details content sync sends to your room and property on Booking.com, how shared property details work across rooms, and what stays as it is.

Written by Tom Krones

Summary

When content sync is on for a listing, Host Tools sends its details to Booking.com each time you save the listing. Some go to the listing's room: maximum guests, size, smoking policy, bedrooms and beds, bathrooms, room amenities and photos. Others go to the Booking.com property the room belongs to: the property name, check-in and check-out times, pets, children, the description, the property's amenities and its photo gallery.

Fees, house rules, the cancellation policy, taxes and the address are not sent to Booking.com and stay as they are there.

Turning on content sync

  1. Click Listings in the main navigation and open the listing.

  2. Click the Settings tab.

  3. Under Listing Status, turn on Sync Listing Content.

  4. Click Save. The Review changes page opens and shows what the first send will change on Booking.com and your other channels.

  5. Check the changes and click Save and send.

This works for a listing that is only on Booking.com, too.

⚠️ Important: The first send replaces the room's bedrooms and beds on Booking.com with the ones in Host Tools, and sets the property's amenities to match the listing's. A property amenity the listing doesn't have, such as heating, is unticked on Booking.com. Add anything you want to keep to the listing in Host Tools before you turn content sync on.

Which fields go to Booking.com

In the listing editor, each field shows the logos of the channels it is sent to. A field with the Booking.com logo goes to Booking.com. The logos are faded while content sync is off. If Booking.com didn't take a field the last time Host Tools sent it, that field's Booking.com logo is faded with a warning mark. Hover it to see Booking.com's reason. The mark stays until Booking.com accepts the value.

Room details

  • Maximum guests — the number of guests the room sleeps. Booking.com's limits for adults, children and infants follow it. A limit you set differently on Booking.com is kept, and only lowered if it no longer fits.

  • Size — sent with its unit when the listing has both. A size can be set on Booking.com but not cleared from Host Tools.

  • Smoking policy — smoking allowed or non-smoking.

  • Bedrooms and beds — your bedrooms, living rooms and their beds. For a single-room unit, such as a studio, all your beds become the room's default beds.

  • Bathrooms — in whole bathrooms, since Booking.com has no half bathrooms. 2.5 bathrooms are sent as 2.

  • Room amenities — the amenities that have a Booking.com counterpart.

  • Photos — the room's photo gallery is set to match the listing's photos, in the same order.

💡 Anything Host Tools doesn't hold a value for is left as it is on Booking.com. Blank fields in Host Tools never wipe your Booking.com listing.

Property details

  • Property name — the listing's name. Booking.com shows it for the whole property. Each room keeps its own room name, which Host Tools doesn't change.

  • Check-in and check-out times — when check-in starts and when check-out ends, to the hour.

  • Pets and children — whether they are allowed.

  • Description — the listing's English description. Booking.com doesn't always publish a description exactly as written, and may not use it at all. A change takes at least 3 hours to show.

  • Property amenities — such as an elevator or a garden. Amenities that need details Host Tools doesn't hold, like a pool, restaurant or meals, and parking and internet, are left as they are.

  • Photo gallery — see Photos below.

Booking.com doesn't accept every name. A name with fewer than 3 letters, more than 5 digits in a row, emoji or Chinese characters, or more than 255 characters isn't sent. The review lists it under Won't be sent to Booking.com with the reason, and it is sent once you rename the listing.

Properties with several rooms

Every room of a Booking.com property shares the property details above. If the property has more than one room, saving a listing sends its values to every room, and whichever room's listing changes a shared detail last sets it for all of them. After the first send, a save only sends the shared details you edited on that listing.

When a save changes something the rooms share, the Booking.com card on the Review changes page says so above the changes and names which ones every room will get.

Reviewing changes before they're sent

With content sync on, saving the Listing Content page opens the Review changes page. The Booking.com card shows each value as Booking.com has it now next to what Host Tools will send. Values Booking.com already holds are left out, and nothing is sent until you click Save and send. If a change won't be sent, such as a name Booking.com would refuse, the page opens to show you why even when nothing else changed.

If Booking.com no longer sells the room, for example because it is unlisted, the card shows Won't be updated with the reason, and Host Tools skips the room until Booking.com sells it again.

Beds

Booking.com has seven bed types: single, double, king, super-king, bunk bed, sofa bed and futon. Host Tools sends each of your beds as the closest of these:

  • A twin bed is sent as a single.

  • A queen bed is sent as a king, and a king bed as a super-king, to match Booking.com's sizes.

  • Cribs, couches, murphy beds and similar aren't sent.

Booking.com doesn't accept a bedroom without a bed, so a room left with no bed Booking.com can take isn't sent.

Amenities

Amenities live in the Amenities tab of the listing editor. Each amenity shows the logos of the channels that receive it, including Booking.com.

A private pool, hot tub or sauna isn't sent to the room yet. These still come in when you import a listing from Booking.com, along with the room's and the property's other amenities.

Photos

  • Host Tools adds the photos the room is missing, removes the room photos the listing doesn't have, and puts them in your order.

  • The property's photo gallery is set to match the listing's photos too, in the same order, and the listing's first photo becomes the property's main photo, the one guests see in search results. On a property with several rooms, the room whose listing was synced last sets the gallery.

  • Nothing is deleted from your Booking.com property. A photo taken out of a gallery stays on the property and in any room's own gallery.

  • If smart ordering is on for the property, Booking.com picks the order guests see, not yours. The Review changes page tells you when it's on. Turn it off on Booking.com to show your order.

  • Booking.com processes new photos before they appear, which usually takes a few minutes. Host Tools waits for them and then updates the room.

  • Photos that were imported from Booking.com are small previews. Host Tools matches them to the photos already on Booking.com and never uploads them again. If one can't be matched, it is reported and the room's other photos still go.

  • A photo that no longer loads isn't uploaded. The Review changes page lists it under Won't be sent.

  • Photos are only sent if your Booking.com connection includes Photos. You choose this when you connect Host Tools as your connectivity provider on Booking.com.

  • Booking.com has no photo captions, so a save that only changes captions sends Booking.com nothing.

Checking whether your changes were sent

The Content sync box at the top of the Listing Content page shows whether content sync is On or Off and how the last send to Booking.com went. If Booking.com turns a value down, the box shows Not everything was sent with Booking.com's reason, and the other values are still sent.

FAQ

Does turning on content sync change anything that already matches?

No. Host Tools reads Booking.com first and only sends what's different.

Will my address be sent to Booking.com?

No. Edit your address on Booking.com directly.

Why did a change on one listing show up on another room?

The property name, check-in and check-out times, pets, children, description, property amenities and photo gallery belong to the whole Booking.com property, so every room shows the same values.
