What listing content syncs to Houfy?

Which listing details, amenities, photos and fees Host Tools sends to Houfy when content sync is on, and what stays on Houfy.

Written by Tom Krones

Summary

When content sync is on for a listing, Host Tools sends its details to Houfy each time you save the listing: the listing name, description, house rules, check-in and check-out times, maximum guests, amenities, photos and fees.

Bedrooms and beds, bathrooms, size, the property type and the address are not sent to Houfy and stay as they are there.

Turning on content sync

  1. Click Listings in the main navigation and open the listing.

  2. Click the Settings tab.

  3. Under Listing Status, turn on Sync Listing Content.

  4. Click Save. The Review changes page opens and shows what the first send will change on Houfy and your other channels.

  5. Check the changes and click Save and send.

This works for a listing that is only on Houfy, too.

⚠️ Important: The first send sets the amenities on Houfy to match the listing's, and makes Houfy's photo gallery match the listing's photos. An amenity the listing doesn't have in Host Tools is turned off on Houfy, and a photo that is only on Houfy is removed. Add anything you want to keep to the listing in Host Tools before you turn content sync on.

Which fields go to Houfy

In the listing editor, each field shows the logos of the channels it is sent to. A field with the Houfy logo goes to Houfy. The logos are faded while content sync is off. If Houfy didn't take a field the last time Host Tools sent it, that field's Houfy logo is faded with a warning mark. Hover it to see Houfy's reason. The mark stays until Houfy accepts the value.

Listing details

  • Listing name — the listing's name. Houfy shows it as the listing name and as the headline guests see first.

  • Description — the listing's English description.

  • House rules — the listing's English house rules.

  • Check-in and check-out times — when check-in starts and when check-out ends, to the hour. Houfy has no check-in time between 2 AM and 7 AM, so a check-in time in that window isn't sent.

  • Maximum guests — the number of guests the listing sleeps.

  • Amenities — each amenity that has a Houfy counterpart is turned on or off on Houfy to match the listing.

  • Photos — Houfy's photo gallery is set to match the listing's photos, in your order and with your captions. See Photos below.

💡 Anything Host Tools doesn't hold a value for is left as it is on Houfy. Blank fields in Host Tools never wipe your Houfy listing.

Photos

  • Host Tools adds the photos Houfy is missing, removes the photos the listing doesn't have, and puts them in your order with your captions. The listing's first photo becomes the cover photo guests see on Houfy.

  • Houfy brings a new photo in in the background, which usually takes under a minute. Host Tools waits for it, then sets the order, the cover and the captions, and sends the listing's other details after the photos.

  • Photos that were imported from Houfy are matched to the photos already on Houfy and never uploaded again.

  • A photo Houfy can't download is reported in the Content sync box as not sent, and the listing's other photos still go. It is tried again with a later save.

  • A save that only changes a caption or the order sends Houfy the new order and captions without uploading anything again.

Fees

Fees live in the Fees tab of the listing editor. Houfy matches a fee by its name, so a fee you add in Host Tools is added to Houfy under that name, and a fee you change is updated there.

  • A pet fee, a security deposit and an extra guest fee aren't sent. Houfy keeps these in its own listing settings, so set them on Houfy directly.

  • A fee charged per guest above a certain number of guests isn't sent either.

  • A fee you delete in Host Tools stays on Houfy. The Content sync box reports it until you remove it on Houfy.

Amenities

Amenities live in the Amenities tab of the listing editor. Each amenity shows the logos of the channels that receive it, including Houfy. A listing that is only on Houfy is offered the amenities Houfy supports.

When you import a listing from Houfy, Host Tools brings in the amenities Houfy marks as present on the listing, along with its property type and check-in and check-out times.

Reviewing changes before they're sent

With content sync on, saving the Listing Content page opens the Review changes page. The Houfy card shows each value as Houfy has it now next to what Host Tools will send, and lists the photos that will be added, removed or reordered. Values Houfy already holds are left out, and nothing is sent until you click Save and send. If a change won't be sent, such as a fee Houfy keeps in its own settings, the card lists it under Won't be sent to Houfy with the reason.

Checking whether your changes were sent

The Content sync box at the top of the Listing Content page shows whether content sync is On or Off and how the last send to Houfy went. If Houfy turns a value down, the box shows Not everything was sent with Houfy's reason, and the value is sent again with your next save.

FAQ

Does turning on content sync change anything that already matches?

No. Host Tools reads Houfy first and only sends what's different.

Will my photos be sent to Houfy?

Yes. Houfy's gallery is set to match the listing's photos, in your order and with your captions, and your first photo becomes the cover. Bedrooms, bathrooms, size and the property type stay as they are on Houfy.

Why is my pet fee not on Houfy?

Houfy keeps pet fees, security deposits and extra guest fees in its own listing settings, so Host Tools doesn't send them. Set them on Houfy.
